Day Eighteen
Verses For The Day
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

What if this Christmas, the best gift we could give wasn’t found under the tree but in the way we choose to love the people around us?
In Champion Kids this year, we’ve been journeying through the Bible in chronological order, exploring stories, parables and miracles. When I started to plan the Christmas season, we’d landed in Corinthians and at first I wasn’t sure how it would fit. But then it clicked. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 explains what love is - patient, kind, humble and not selfish, everything our world seems to be running short on. And what better time than Christmas to remind ourselves what real love looks like and to show others that love too?!
When we look back to that first Christmas night, we see that kind of love coming into the world in the most unexpected way, through a baby born in a stable. God chose an ordinary place and ordinary people with shepherds, a young couple, and travellers from far away to show that His love is for everyone. From that first night, love began to change hearts and it still can. Just as God chose to show love through Jesus, we can choose to show that same love in how we live and treat others.
At Christmastime it’s so easy to get swept up in the chaos, shopping lists, family plans and the pressure to make everything “just right". But love isn’t found in the perfect decorations or the perfect gift.
It’s found in choosing patience with an elderly relative who takes things at their own pace. It’s thinking of others by offering a smile to that shop assistant who’s been on their feet all day or letting someone go ahead of you in the queue, even when you’re tired and just want to get home.
It’s taking a moment to really listen to someone who just needs to talk and it’s found in offering forgiveness to that person who just stole your parking space at Merry Hill on Christmas Eve…
That’s what Christmas love looks like. Those ordinary, small moments becoming something beautiful when we choose to love like Jesus.
Jesus didn’t just come to show us how to celebrate, He came to show us how to love. So maybe this year, the best gift we can give is to just love the Jesus way.
To slow down, to really see people and to love without expecting anything in return. Because when we do that we’re not just celebrating Christmas…we’re living it.
How can you show someone the love of Jesus today? Let’s choose love in the small moments, trusting that God can do something big through them!
