Day Fifteen - The Greatest Gift Of All Time
Verse For The Day
Matthew 2:2
“Where is He who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw His star when it rose and have come to worship Him”.
“Where is He who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw His star when it rose and have come to worship Him”.
As we approach Christmas, you’ve probably noticed homes glowing with lights, shops filled with decorations and carols playing everywhere instantly drawing us into the Christmas atmosphere. You don’t need an announcement to know it’s the season; everything around you makes it clear.
Yet in the midst of the excitement, anticipation and the many demands this season brings, it becomes easy to overlook the true meaning of Christmas. Today’s devotion is a gentle reminder of the ultimate gift of Christmas, which is Jesus.
John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
There is no greater gift than Jesus. He is the gift that transforms lives, the gift that saves and the gift that never fades or grows old. The true meaning of Christmas is that Christ loved us so deeply that He humbled Himself, becoming both the gift and the sacrifice so that we could be brought from death to life.
We’ve all experienced receiving a gift we didn’t particularly like or given someone a gift that was not well received. In a similar way, many of the Jewish people during the ministry of Jesus missed the greatest gift of all time because they expected a Messiah who fit their own picture of a king and, in doing so, they rejected the Saviour of the world.
In contrast, the wise men recognised the priceless gift of Jesus. Instead of rejecting Him, they travelled a great distance, sacrificing their time and resources despite the many challenges they likely faced. Their journey shows us the importance of prioritising God in the midst of chaos, challenges and the busyness of life. Their goal was simple yet profound—to seek the newborn King above everything else and make Him their ultimate focus. And they did exactly that. This serves as a powerful reminder for us today to continually prioritise Jesus and to seek Him in all that we do.
Matthew 2:2: “Where is He who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw His star when it rose and have come to worship Him”.
We may not reject Jesus outright, but if our hearts become consumed with the worldly pressures and expectations of the season, we too can lose sight of the One we are truly celebrating. Let us become like the wise men who recognised our Saviour and prioritised Him over everything else.
Jesus is the gift.
Jesus is the reason for the season.
May we remember that not just today, but every day.
