Day Twenty Four - Peace in the Promise
Verse For The Day
Isaiah 9:6
For to us a Child is born,
to us a Son is given;
and the government will be upon His shoulders.
And He will be called,
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
For to us a Child is born,
to us a Son is given;
and the government will be upon His shoulders.
And He will be called,
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Have you ever stopped to think about how long that name is? Imagine the space it would need on a birth certificate or passport—or a child trying to introduce themselves at school!
Scripture gives us around 200 names and titles for Jesus, each revealing His nature, His place within the triune God and His work on Earth. In Luke 1:31, the angel Gabriel visits Mary and says: “You shall call His name Jesus.” That name remains the most powerful name to this day.
As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, I want to invite you to gain a fresh revelation of who He is—to know Him and experience Him as Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
Throughout Scripture, Jesus—the Prince of Peace—never appears anxious, fearful, or worried, even when facing great persecution and ultimately death. One powerful example is found in Mark 4:35–39, where Jesus calms the storm.
From this passage, we learn the following:
1. Always have Jesus in your “boat”—your life.
Verse 36 tells us the disciples took Jesus with them in the boat. This raises an important question for us: Who is in your boat? In the coming days, it may be worth reflecting on the people you do life with—some chosen (friends), some not chosen (family). But most importantly, is Jesus present in your life?
2. Having Jesus in your boat does not mean you are immune from storms - challenges.
In verse 37, the storm still came. Challenges are part of life, and sometimes it even feels like following Jesus makes us a target. Faith does not remove storms—but it does change how we face them.
3. In times of trouble, call on Him. He is already with you.
Even when it feels like Jesus is asleep or absent, He is still in the boat (v.38). You are never facing the storm alone.
4. Jesus can deal with your storm and establish Peace in you at the same time.
With a word, He rebuked the wind and the waves and there was a great calm—a perfect peacefulness (v.39).
5. Have faith and confidence in Jesus, even in the storm.
Jesus expected His disciples to trust Him, even when their lives were in danger (v.40).
Jesus had an expectation for them to have faith - Why?
Because from the beginning, in verse 35, He said, “Let us go over to the other side.”
This was not just a statement—it was a Promise.
If the disciples had remembered those words in the middle of the storm, spoken by the Prince of Peace, they may have been calmer, less worried and less fearful. Why? Because there is Peace in the Promises of the Prince of Peace.
My friend, as we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace, you may be in the middle of a storm right now. I invite you to know and remember His promises concerning you, your life, your family. They are yes and amen, meaning they are true, and they come to pass.
May His Peace flow within you and through you—to your family, your community and all those around you—today, in this season and forever.
In the mighty name of Jesus,
Amen.
